The Newton Lady Eagles broke open a close 2-0 game with 3 runs in the top of the fifth inning and went on to shutout the Lawrenceville Lady Indians 5-0 on Senior Day at Phil Alsman Field in Lawrenceville Wednesday.
The visitors scored 5 runs on 6 hits with no errors while the Lady Indians did not score and had only 4 hits with no errors.
Erin Harris, Alyssa Griggs, Lailah Opat and Allison Evans had the Lady Indian hits.
Evans took the pitching loss as she went 7 innings and allowed all 5 runs with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
Four seniors-Griggs, along with Addy Brush, Abby Taylor and Harris were honored in ceremonies prior to the game.
The loss drops the Lady Indians to 5-13 on the season with a road trip to Dugger (Ind.) scheduled for Thursday.
