IHSAA releases sectional assignments for six team sports

The Indiana High School Athletic Association has released the sectional assignments for six team sports for the next two-year cycle.

Host sites for sectionals in basketball, football, soccer and girls volleyball will be determined later this spring by athletic administrators.

Sectional assignments for baseball and softball will be determined this summer and submitted for approval by the IHSAA’s Executive Committee.

Football

Shelbyville, 5-6 last season, will compete in a 7-team Class 4A sectional in 2026 and 2027. Joining the Golden Bears in Sectional 23 will be Charlestown (8-3), Columbus East (5-5), East Central (9-3), Jennings County (2-8), Madison (2-9) and Silver Creek (3-7).

Triton Central, under new head coach Tim Kegley, is part of Class 2A, Sectional 37 along with Christel House (0-9), Covenant Christian (2-8), Eastern Hancock (6-5), Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter (3-7), Indianapolis Lutheran (11-2), Indianapolis Scecina (5-5) and Park Tudor (5-5).

Triton Central finished 10-2 last season for head coach Tim Able, who resigned after the season and announced his retirement from education at the conclusion of this school year.

Basketball

With New Palestine and Greenwood moving back up to Class 4A, Shelbyville has a new look Class 3A sectional to compete in next season in both boys and girls basketball.

Sectional 27 has Beech Grove, Connersville, Purdue Polytechnic-Downtown, Roncalli, Rushville and the Golden Bears.

Triton Central is in a 7-team sectional (43) in Class 2A that also includes Christel House, Eastern Hancock, Indianapolis Scecina, KIPP Indy Legacy, Knightstown and Victory College Prep.

Shelby County’s three smallest schools – Morristown, Southwestern and Waldron – remain in an 8-team sectional in Class A. Sectional 59 also includes Edinburgh, Greenwood Christian, Hauser, North Decatur and South Decatur.

Boys Soccer

Shelbyville will compete against some of the largest schools in a 7-team sectional in Class 3A.

Sectional 14 includes Center Grove, Columbus East, Columbus North, East Central, Franklin, Shelbyville and Whiteland.

Triton Central is in a 6-tea, sectional in Class 2A. The Tigers will compete against Centerville, Connersville, Greensburg, New Castle and Rushville.

In Class A, Morristown is assigned to Sectional 42 with Greenwood Christian, Indianapolis Lutheran, Irvington Prep, Mooresville Christian, Providence Cristo Rey and Victory College Prep.

Southwestern is in a 5-team sectional with Hauser, Shawe Memorial, Southwestern (Hanover) and Trinity Lutheran.

Girls Soccer

Class 3A, Sectional 14 has eight teams including the Golden Bears. Those teams are Center Grove, Columbus East, Columbus North, East Central, Franklin, Lawrenceburg and Whiteland.

Class A, Sectional 42 has six teams including Triton Central. The Tigers will battle Greenwood Christian, Indianapolis Lutheran, Indianapolis Scecina, Knightstown and Providence Cristo Rey for a sectional title.

Volleyball

There are only four Class 3A sectionals with just five teams, including Sectional 27 where Shelbyville is assigned.

Also in the sectional are Beech Grove, Connersville, Purdue Polytechnic-Downtown and Rushville.

In Class 2A, Sectional 43, Triton Central will vie with Christel House, Eastern Hancock, Indianapolis Scecina, KIPP Indy Legacy, Knightstown and Victory College Prep for a sectional title.

Class A, Sectional 59 includes Edinburgh, Greenwood Christian, Hauser, Morristown, North Decatur, South Decatur, Southwestern and Waldron.
