Collegiate Update: Garrison leads Franklin College to runner-up finish at conference golf tournament

Jake Garrison helped Franklin College men’s golf finish runner-up in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Sunday at Boone’s Trace National Golf Club in Richmond, Kentucky.

Transylvania won the HCAC title. Franklin College finished second while Anderson was third. The Grizzlies shot 306 (+18) Sunday to secure the second-place outcome.

Garrison, a Shelbyville graduate, shot rounds of 74, 80 and 75 for a three-day total of 229 (+13) that placed him 10th overall. He had three birdies in the first 10 holes Sunday.

Garrison’s performance came after being named the HCAC Player of the Week after his ninth-place finish in the DePauw Spring Clash.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

Cheyenne Eads

The Shelbyville graduate impacted both games in a pair of wins for No. 2 Indianapolis Sunday against Lewis.

Eads was the winning pitcher in game one’s 11-2 victory. She improved to 26-2 after allowing one hit and three walks over 4.1 innings pitched.

The Greyhounds won game two, 10-1. Eads had two hits, two walks and three RBIs to push her team’s win streak to 17 straight.

Indianapolis (53-3, 27-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) set a new regular season record for wins at 53 and its .964 win percentage against conference foes is a program record for a season.

The Greyhounds will be the No. 1 seed at the GLVC Tournament beginning Wednesday in East Peoria, Illinois.

Oliver Gearlds

The Triton Central graduate finished tied for 10th Tuesday at the River States Conference Championships at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia.

Competing for IU Kokomo, Gearlds carded rounds of 78, 78 and 76 for a three-round total of 232 (+16). That earned him an All-Conference honor.

Jayda McKee

The Triton Central graduate had a hit and scored a run Saturday in Anderson’s 10-5 loss to Earlham College in game one of a doubleheader.

In game two, McKee had a single in an 11-2 loss to close out the Ravens’ regular-season schedule.

Anderson is 13-26 (7-11 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference).

Kylee Edwards

The Shelbyville graduate had a walk and a double, scored two runs and drove in a run Tuesday in LSU’s 16-0 win over McNeese.

LSU swept a three-game series with Auburn.

Edwards had two hits in a 3-0 win Thursday.

On Saturday, Edwards had two hits and four runs scored in a 25-0 victory in game one of a doubleheader. She had a double and scored a run in a 7-2 victory in game two.
