Triton Central High School senior Braden Brown has been named the Beth Prince State Farm Athlete of the Week.
Brown showed his versatility and athleticism Friday in a win at Mendenhall Field in Fairland. The senior carried the ball 28 times for 104 yards and a touchdown, and he completed 2-of-3 passes for 44 yards and another touchdown to lead Class 2A, No. 10 Triton Central to a 17-14 victory over Class 3A, No. 13 Indian Creek.
The win keeps his team atop the standings in the Hoosier Legends Conference.
“He is a big-play player. He is a hybrid player that can play multiple positions with unbelievable athleticism,” said TC head coach Tim Able. “He still has a lot of untapped ability. He is getting better each and every week.”
The Tigers lost starting quarterback Matthew Wilkins late in the first half in a 21-14 loss to Lebanon one week earlier. And with reserve quarterback Bo West unable to play while still recovering from a concussion, Able prepared Brown, fellow senior Conner McClure and sophomore Dylan Showalter to play quarterback against the Braves.
Brown came through in impressive fashion and the result was another victory as TC improved to 6-1, including a 4-0 mark in conference play.
