The Lawrenceville basketball Indians are Class 1A Macon (Meridian) Sectional champions.

The Tribe overcame a slow start and used changing pressure defenses to gradually grind down and pull away from the Altamont Indians 59-45 in the title game Friday night.

They trailed 11-9 after one quarter of play, but gradually the tide turned and at the half, the Indians assumed a 27-21 lead and were never headed the rest of the way in winning their 10th game in a row and running their season record to 32-2.

Jayden Goff led the scoring for Lawrenceville with 19 points, Noah Wilson added 15 and Jacek Mickiewicz 12.

The Indians are one of only eight Class 1A teams remaining and will head to Charleston Monday to play the LeRoy Panthers in the Super Sectional at Groninger Arena. LeRoy beat Decatur Unity to win the Danville Sectional Friday. The game can be heard on 103.1 GIANT-FM with Steve Anderson and Bill Richardson at 7 p.m.
