Terry J. Knight, 77, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, August 27,2026 at his residence.
Born February 3, 1949, in Shelbyville, he was the son of William Robert "Bob" Knight and Hazel May (Purtlebaugh) Knight. He married Brenda (Waddell) Knight on September 30,1966 and she preceded him on April 13, 2024.
Survivors include 2 sons- Greg Knight (Amy) of Bradenton, Florida, Mike Knight (Deena) of Patriot, Indiana; 5 siblings- Bob Knight of Naples, Florida, Brenda Day of Shelbyville, Linda Conover of Shelbyville, Gary Knight of Shelbyville, Debbie Tracy (Neil) of Morristown; 2 grandchildren- Josh Knight of Shelbyville, and Ross Knight, who is currently serving in the US Navy; 6 step grandchildren- Matt Bowers, Nate Bowers, Dickie Romans, Dana Carter, Reanie Konkle, Devin Romans; and is also survived by several nieces and nephews and Great Grandaughter Adalynn Knight as well as his loving K9 companion Lucy Lu.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouse, and a sister Kathy Knight.
Mr. Knight was a lifelong resident of this area and attended Shelbyville High School. He worked at Shelby Materials, retiring in 2021 after 33 years of service. Before that he was owner/operator of Knight's Union 76, a full service station on North 9 for 25 years where he serviced Shelby County with his mechanical skills.
He was member of Shelbyville Moose Lodge #2118, American Legion and VFW. He also attended Town & Country Christian Church.
Terry was an avid hunter and fisherman, affectionally known to those close to him as "T Bone." He enjoyed spending many weekends at the family farm "Knight's Niche" in Vevay, Indiana and also at Hardy Lake in North Vernon. He especially cherished the time spent with his great granddaughter Adalynn. Terry had an open-door policy to all friends and family to gather around the family pool during the summertime!
Funeral services will be Friday, September 4, 2026, at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Rev. Bill Horner officiating.
He will be laid to rest at a later date in Miller Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday afternoon from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
