Sherry Obrochta, born September 3, 1970, in Melrose Park, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2026, in Plymouth, Indiana; leaving behind 55 years of love, laughter, strong opinions, and more than a few very specific preferences.
Knowing Sherry meant knowing you were loved and cared for.
A hug and kiss when you walked through the door, and again when you left. Every phone call ending with, “I love you.” Literally and figuratively, Sherry’s first instinct was always to hold her loved ones close.
Knowing Sherry also meant knowing you would never leave hungry. She loved to cook. But, she never quite mastered the concept of “just enough.” Thanksgiving for four meant a full-sized turkey and ham, and enough side dishes to feed a small town. And, if you asked her to bring a side dish over — well, you’d surely get at least five, and probably a dessert you didn’t know you needed too!
There was almost always music playing, too. Often, an answered call by Sherry would inevitably start with, “Hold on!” — before the music was turned down, and the ‘80s throwback faded away.
And, she was always put together. Always. I mean, even her slippers had a heel!
But, that was the thing about Sherry — she knew what she liked, valued, and the morals she stood for. She was completely and unapologetically herself, and wonderfully stubborn about it.

Beneath all of that was an enormous heart. Sherry didn’t just love people. She made sure they knew it, too.
She loved deeply, genuinely, and without conditions. She listened without judgment — loving people exactly where they were, for who they were. She never made you earn her love. She never made you feel like you had to face anything alone.
Being loved by Sherry felt certain, and we’ll miss knowing she was always there. We’ll miss having someone who made sure we always knew just how much we were loved.
Her absence will be felt deeply; especially in the quiet, ordinary moments — when a song comes on that Sherry would have cranked up the volume on and played on repeat… that suddenly is only played once. In the gatherings where there is a newfound normal amount of food. When a laugh can no longer be heard from rooms away. When you need a nonjudgmental ear to vent to, or someone to joke with, but the call goes unanswered. And, in so many other littlethings that will forever remind us of her — and of the incredible impact Sherry had on our lives, and the memories that will stay with us forever.
Sherry will be remembered as someone others could rely on. Someone who loved selflessly and wholeheartedly. Someone with a beautiful, loving, playful spirit.
A time to visit with family will be on Friday, September 11th, 2026 from 4-8 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home - Plymouth Chapel, 300 W. Madison St. Plymouth, IN. A mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Michael Catholic Church, 612 N. Walnut St. Plymouth, IN on Saturday, September 12th, 2026 at 11 a.m. with 1 hour of visitation prior. Procession to Grovertown cemetery will immediately follow the mass.
