Richard “Rick” Allen Chilcutt, 72, of Akron, Indiana passed on Friday, October 16, 2026 at his residence surrounded by family.
Rick was born on March 14, 1954 in Peru, Indiana. He was the son of Helen V. (Webb) Murphy and Watt Stapleton. As the oldest of 11 children his departure marks the first loss among his siblings.
He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He dedicated many years of his life working as a millwright, a profession through which he met many lifelong friends. Outside of work, Rick was an avid outdoorsman, who thoroughly enjoyed hunting in the hills of West Virginia with his cousin Craig Ross.
Known for his incredible sense of humor, Rick always has a joke ready to share and kept those around him laughing until the end.
He is survived by his daughters Samantha Chilcutt and Katrina Denoo; grandchildren Parker Fultz, Cassie Collins, and Evan Denoo; step grandchildren Preston Denoo and Carson Denoo; and his 10 siblings.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents Helen V. Murphy and Watt Stapleton.
Following his request no visitation or service will be held at this time. His remembrance place will be in the hills of West Virginia, knowing how much he loved the outdoors, and recognizing that he will miss this year’s deer season, he will be taken on his final hunt in the mountains he loved.
The arrangements have been entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana.
Please comment and share a memory or your favorite joke of Rick's.
