George “Maynard” Hill, 87, passed away peacefully at his home on July 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Maynard shared his life with his wife Nellie, whom he married in 1956 as teenagers. They built a lifetime together filled with unwavering love and devotion. Even in his final days, Maynard’s greatest concern was caring for Nellie, showing a testament to how deeply he loved her.

Maynard proudly served his community as a member of the Shelbyville Police Department. He dedicated his career to protecting and serving the people of Shelbyville for 36 years before retiring. He carried the same sense of duty, integrity, and quiet strength into every aspect of his life.

Above all else, Maynard was a devoted family man. He was the proud father of three sons: Randall Hill, Timothy Hill, and Gregory “Benny” Hill. He was preceded in death by Randall and Gregory, as well as his grandson Jason Hill.

He leaves behind his loving wife Nellie, his son Timothy, his daughters by love Paula and Jodi, his grandchildren Charity (Rex), Christopher, David (Britny), Anthony (Heather), and Nathan (Jennifer). He had many cherished great-grandchildren as well who brought him endless joy.

Maynard will be remembered for his quiet strength, steadfast character, and unconditional love for his family. He lived a life defined by service, loyalty, and compassion. His legacy is found not only in the years he lived, but in the family he nurtured, the community he served, and the countless lives he touched.

The family will honor Maynard’s life with a private celebration. Though his presence will be deeply missed, the love he shared and the example he set will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
