Ava Gay Correll, 72, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away on Sunday, May 31, at 10:10 PM at Life Care Center of Rochester.
On December 6, 1953, Ava Gay McCarty was born in LaPorte to John and Florence Reynolds McCarty. Ava was the last born of eight children. She was a member of the Knox High School class of 1971.
On February 3, 1988, Ava was joined in marriage to Rodney L. Correll in LaPorte. Together, they raised two handsome sons and enjoyed watching the family tree grow to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ava devoted herself to caring for her family and also worked at LaPorte Hospital in the housekeeping department for 28 years, retiring in 2015. When not at work, Ava would be found tending to her family and home by looking after the yard work and mowing, attending to the flowers, and dishing up her memorable coleslaw and roast beef. As time allowed, Ava would be found enjoying visiting the casinos where she loved playing the slot machines.
Left to cherish the memories of Ava are her husband, Rodney; two sons: Roger (Jennie) Howard and Kenny Howard of Rochester; four grandchildren: Kyle (Sarah) Howard, Joseph (Robin) Howard, Caleb Howard, and Camilla Howard; four great-grandchildren: Kolton Blaze Howard, Kohen Dash Howard, Declan Stephen Howard and Carson Joseph Howard; sister, Eva (Rick) Murphy of LaPorte; and a brother, Bug McCarty of Knox.
Preceding Ava in death are her parents John and Florence McCarty; a grandson, Kody “Krow” Howard; siblings: Beverly age 8; and McCarty brothers Rabbit, Jim, Duck, Tubby, Doe, Hanse, and Bill.
A celebration of the life of Ava G. Correll will be held on Tuesday, June 9 at noon at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester.
Friends may visit the family from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be at Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
