Arthur A. Jacobs, a cherished patriarch, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, in his hometown of Plymouth, Indiana, at the age of 88. Born on June 15, 1937, to the late Harland and Florence (Tyler) Jacobs, Arthur's journey through life was marked by unwavering dedication to his family, strong work ethic, and a love for the great outdoors.
Arthur united in marriage with the love of his life, Donna (Fritter) Jacobs, on March 2, 1958, in Lakeville, Indiana. Together, they navigated life's adventures until her passing on March 19, 2006. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Malinda (Mark) Shafer and Art (Lisa) Jacobs, who provided him with the joy of grandchildren, Chase (Charleen) Shafer, Samantha (Rick) Murray, Amy (Alex) Eads, and Hannah Jacobs, and further blessings came with his great-grandchildren Noah, Savannah, Tinley, Ozzy, and Frankie.
Before laying down roots in his chosen profession, Arthur honorably served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Lexington aircraft carrier, where he honed his skills as an electrician in the engine room. Following his naval service, Arthur continued to light up the lives of many by working as an electrician, dedicating his life to this craft.
Arthur's enthusiasm for life was infectious, and his interests were as diverse as they were captivating. An adept woodworker, he once built a baby cradle for his great grandchildren. His passion for nature was evident to all who knew him, whether he was fishing, hunting with his son Art, or indulging in his favorite pastime, mushroom hunting. He was also an active member of several community organizations, including the Independent Order of Oddfellows, VFW Post 1162, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and he cherished moments spent skeet shooting at the Marshall County Conservation Club.
The simple pleasures in life brought great joy to Arthur, none more so than his favorite snacks. Sun chips and Fig Newtons were often his companions during heartfelt conversations with friends and loved ones. Arthur's fondness for a Dairy Queen Blizzard was well-known—a sweet delight he proclaimed as one of life's finest treats.
Arthur leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire his family and all those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna; siblings Luella Nicodemus, Jean Thompson, Robert, Clarence, John, and Richard Jacobs, he leaves behind a legacy of love, honor, and duty.
A memorial visitation will be on Monday, March 2nd, 2026, from 3-5 p.m. A service with military honors will follow, starting at 5 p.m. All being held at Palmer Funeral Home – Plymouth Chapel, 300 W. Madison St. Plymouth, IN 46563. Pastor Chris Taylor will officiate the services. Arthur will be laid to rest next to his loving wife, Donna, at a later date in the New Oak Hill Cemetery.
