A procedural filing error has ended the campaign of Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum for the Indiana State Senate District 39 seat in Indianapolis.
The Yochum campaign issued a written statement Tuesday indicating that the Indiana Democratic Party did not properly file the required paperwork with the Indiana Election Division in Indianapolis after he was voted by caucus as the Democratic candidate for the November 2026 election. The forms were to be filed with the state by noon EDT three days after the conclusion of the caucus vote in Washington, Indiana.
In the statement, Yochum expressed disappointment in not being the Democratic candidate in the fall election. But he did indicate that he will continue his duties as mayor of Vincennes and continue to be active in speaking out on behalf of southwestern Indiana.
