Yakym Votes to Fully Fund Veterans’ Healthcare, Invest in Military Infrastructure

Friday, Congressman Rudy Yakym (IN-02) voted in favor of H.R. 8469, the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2027. The legislation fully funds veterans' health care and benefits while making critical investments in military infrastructure, housing, and improving VA facilities.

"The men and women who served this country deserve care and benefits that match their sacrifice," Rep. Yakym said. "This bill delivers on that promise. It fully funds veterans' medical care, protects their constitutional rights, and invests in the military infrastructure our service members and their families rely on every day."

Background:

The FY2027 MilCon-VA Appropriations Act provides $469.49 billion in total funding, including $157 billion in discretionary funding. Key provisions include: 

• Veterans' Medical Care: Fully funds veterans' medical care at $138.2 billion, equal to the President's FY2027 Budget Request.
   

• Military Construction: Provides $19.2 billion for critical investments in infrastructure, housing, and childcare for service members and their families.

   

• Community Care: Fully funds the Community Care account, empowering veterans to seek specialty care that meets their individual needs.
   

• VA Facility Upgrades: Invests over $2 billion in capital improvements for VA medical facilities and four national cemeteries.
   

• Veterans' Second Amendment Rights: Prevents the VA from transmitting veterans' information to the FBI without a judge's consent.
   

• American Security: Prohibits the VA from purchasing resources from the People's Republic of China and maintains the prohibition on closing Naval Station Guantanamo Bay.

   

• Taxpayer Protections: Upholds the Trump Administration's prohibition on taxpayer-funded abortion, DEI programs, and biological sex-rejecting procedures.
  
  The legislation also provides $352.93 million for related agencies, including the American Battle Monument Commission, Arlington National Cemetery, and the Armed Forces Retirement Home.
