A major announcement coming from Wabash General Hospital (WGH) in Mt. Carmel, Ill.
The hospital board of directors met in special session Monday and moved to progress forward in the creating for plans for a major campus expansion. Initial estimates indicate that the proposed project would cost around $75 million, the largest construction project in hospital history.
The action does not authorize actual construction. WGH must still get the plan together for submission to the Illinois Health Facilities Services and Review Board for approval and permitting and other steps before moving forward.
WGH officials say that planning for an expansion of facilities in Mt. Carmel has been in the works for several years dating back to 2018-19 and will address growing needs identified in several departments.
WGH now employs over 650 people from Wabash County and the surrounding area.
