The City of Vincennes announced the signing of a new Sister City relationship with the City of Ovruch, Ukraine – a partnership that celebrates friendship, cultural exchange, and a shared commitment to community resilience.
Mayor Yochum of Vincennes and Mayor Korud of Ovruch have expressed mutual interest in forming this connection as a symbol of solidarity and cooperation between their two historic cities. The Sister City relationship will provide opportunities for cultural, educational, and civic exchange, as well as collaboration between residents, schools, and organizations in both communities.
“Both Vincennes and Ovruch are cities defined by history, strength, and perseverance,” said Mayor Yochum. “Our two communities may be separated by distance, but we are united in spirit – in dedication to our citizens, our belief in peace, and our shared hope for a brighter future.”
Ovruch, located in Ukraine’s Zhytomyr region, has demonstrated remarkable courage and unity through challenging times. Vincennes, Indiana’s first city and one of the oldest European settlements in the Midwest, shares a proud tradition of resilience and civic pride.
Through this partnership, the two cities hope to create lasting bonds through resident and cultural exchanges, community projects, and opportunities for learning that promote mutual understanding and friendship.
The Sister City initiative reflects Vincennes’ belief that local connections can foster global understanding, strengthening both communities and inspiring cooperation that reaches far beyond borders.
