US 231 meeting planned for Putnam County residents

While US 231 has been open through the heart of downtown for several months, Putnam County residents will have an opportunity to hear about the next stage of construction later this month during a public forum.

INDOT officials, as well as City of Greencastle officials will meet with residents Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Putnam County Fairgrounds Community Building.

Greencastle Mayor Lynda Dunbar said INDOT officials have reached out to her to let her know their plan is to do the third and final stage in sections, which will span from Franklin Street to the railroad crossing.

"There is a two block section that needs a new sewer line put in, and they have a plan and their engineering is done," Dunbar told The Putnam County Post.

By doing the road in sections, the railroad will have to be closed for a "short time," INDOT officials have said, according to Dunbar.

"They assure me they want to get in and out and don't have the same delays and problems of last year. I am encouraged they have already reached out to talk about the plans," Dunbar said.
