After months of planning, the Lawrence County Unit #20 Board of Education has taken another key step in a multi-faceted facilities improvement project.

The board, after hearing from a presentation from Tim King of Kings Financial Consulting of Monticello, Illinois, moved to pass a resolution for the issuance of approximately $10 million in General Obligation School Bonds. The sale is to help finance the altering and reconstructing of specified school buildings and the purchase and installation of new equipment for safety, energy conservation, and school security purposes.

The work will include geo-thermal HVAC at Parkside Elementary School, interior and exterior door replacement at Parkview Junior High, bathroom remodeling also at Parkview and electrical and other work at the vocational shop at Lawrenceville High School.

Superintendent Doug Daugherty told GIANT-FM News that next up is for formal finalization of the life, health and safety issues by the Illinois State Board of Education. Once that occurs, then the bond sale will take place, and the initial phases of the project will begin perhaps in March.

The board will meet in a special session on Friday, February 27th to conduct walkthroughs of the district buildings to be affected.
