A fast moving, powerful storm system rolled through the GIANT-FM listening area Wednesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that it spawned high winds which downed trees and power lines, causing sporadic power outages in many locations. The NWS did indicate a peak wind gust of 67 mph was recorded during the storm activity at the Mid-American Air Center located northeast of Lawrenceville.
There were no serious injuries reported, and Ameren Illinois and Norris Electric say that crews are working to restore power to affected locations.
With the system exiting the area, the forecast is now calling for extremely hot and humid conditions to move in for the weekend.
