By Staff report

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces part of County Road 600 E. will close for reduced conflict intersection (RCI) construction at the intersection with U.S. 40 in Hancock County.

Beginning on or after Monday, September 21, C.R. 600 E. will close on the south side of the intersection with U.S. 40. The south intersection is expected to be closed for four weeks. The north side of C.R. 600 E. will reopen when the south side closes.

U.S. 40 eastbound and westbound remain reduced to one lane around the intersection with C.R. 600 E. Motorists should stay alert for changing traffic patterns in the area and follow all traffic directions and signage carefully. Construction is expected to be complete by Christmas.

The RCI is an alternative to traditional roadway intersections on a four-lane highway. Instead of motorists crossing fast-moving lanes of traffic to get to the opposing lanes, drivers at a RCI turn right in the same direction of traffic, merge into the left lane, and then make a U-turn in the direction they intend to travel
