Sheriff Hassel releases January Jail & Sheriff's Dept. Report

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel released the January 2025 Jail and Sheriff’s Department Report.

Each month the sheriff details the top ten offenses for being booked into the county jail.  In January those reasons were Resisting Law Enforcement at #10 with 5 arrests, Public Intoxication at #9 with 6 arrests, Possession of Cocaine/Narcotic was #8 with 6 arrests, Possession of Marijuana was 7^th with 9 arrests and Possession of Paraphernalia was 6^th with 10 arrests.  The top five intake offenses were #5 Driving While Suspended with 10 arrests, #4 Operator Never Licensed with 12 arrests, Domestic Battery was 3^rd with 14 arrests, Operating While Intoxicated was second on the list with 19 arrests and number one was Failure to Appear with 24 arrests.     

There was a total of 128 bookings in January with Community Corrections making one, Bourbon Police had two arrests, Argos officers made three arrests, and Bremen Police had five arrests. Officers from the Indiana State Police arrested 10 individuals in January, Plymouth Officers had 44 arrests, and officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department made 63 arrests.

The average daily population of the County Jail was 115 in January.  Six months earlier, in July 2024, the average daily population was 135, and one year earlier the population was 148.

Jail Count Day was February 18^th when the population was 127 with 105 males and 22 females.  There were 3 inmates serving time with misdemeanor charges and 26 serving time with felony charges.  85 were pre-trial inmates, 8 were awaiting arraignment, 1 was being held for another county and 2 were on court order holds. 

Officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated 96 accidents in January, 72 were property damage and 24 were personal injury accidents. 

County police officers handled 58 case reports, issued 51 citations, and conducted 14 security checks.  There are currently 1,275 active warrants to be served. 

The Marshall County Dispatch Center answered a total of 3,806 calls with 986 being for 911.  98.4% of the 911 calls were answered in 10 seconds or less.  There were also 977 calls for service from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
