Sheriff Hassel releases December 2025 Jail & Sheriff's Dept. Report

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel released the December 2025 Department Report, which includes the monthly Jail Report. 

In December, police officers from around the county booked 138 individuals into the Marshall County Jail.  Argos officers made two arrests. Bourbon, Culver, and Troopers with the Indiana State Police each had four bookings into the county jail. Bremen officers made five arrests in December.  Officers with the Plymouth Police Department lodged 49 individuals into the county jail, and officers with the Sheriff’s Department made 70 arrests.

Reviewing the top ten reasons why people were booked into the jail during December, you find intimidation at # 10 with 5 arrests, immediately followed by possession of cocaine/narcotic with 5 arrests. # 8 was possession of paraphernalia with 6 bookings, and theft was 7^th with 7 arrests. Domestic battery also had 7 bookings and was ranked 6^th, while driving while suspended, with 5 on the list, with 11 arrests.  Operator never licensed was 4^th with 14 arrests, and possession of marijuana was 3^rd with 16 bookings.  Rounding out the top ten was operating while intoxicated, with 24 arrests, and failure to appear was the number one reason people were booked into the county jail in December, with 27 incidents.

Officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated 114 accidents in December, 92 were property damage, 21 involved personal injury, and 1 was a fatality.

County police initiated 70 case reports, issued 156 warnings or citations, conducted 38 security checks, and responded to 1,310 calls for service. There are 1,309 active warrants waiting to be served. 

Central Dispatch answered 5,738 calls in December, with 1,569 being 911 calls.  99.78% of the 911 calls were answered in 10 seconds or less.    

The December Jail Report count was conducted on January 15^th, when the population of the jail was 104. There were 15 inmates serving time for felony charges, 73 were pre-trial, 12 were awaiting arraignment, and 4 were being held for another agency.  Of the 104 inmates, 84 were males, and 20 were females.

The average daily population of the jail in December was 124, while six-months earlier in June was 142, and one year prior in December 2024, the average daily population of the jail was 120.
