Shelbyville standout to be inducted into Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame

There is another Golden Bear headed to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

The 2026 Men’s Induction Class was announced Tuesday and it includes 1970 Shelbyville graduate Harry Larrabee.

Larrabee was an Indiana All-Star in 1970 following the completion of his Golden Bears career where he scored 1,390 points and helped the team go 55-20 over three consecutive seasons.

Larrabee went on to play collegiately at the University of Texas where he totaled 899 points and 206 rebounds in 80 games over three seasons. The Longhorns twice won Southwest Conference championships and made two NCAA Tournament appearances during his career.

He is still eighth in the Texas record book with a career .849 free throw percentage, was named team MVP as a junior, was two-time team captain and was awarded a 1974 Postgraduate Scholarship.

Larrabee moved into coaching and compiled a 341-271 overall record coaching at the collegiate and high school levels, including at Shelbyville.

He had successful stints at Alaska-Anchorage and Texas State before returning home to Shelbyville in 2000, going 102-73 in eight seasons with the boys and 18-5 in one season with the girls.

Larrabee led the Shelbyville boys basketball team to an undefeated regular season in 2006. That team finished 23-1 and will be honored at halftime Wednesday at William L. Garrett Gymnasium during Shelbyville’s 2025-2026 season opener against Rushville. Larrabee will be in attendance for the celebration.

Larrabee is a member of the University of Texas All-Century Team and the All-Decade Team for the 1970s. He was inducted into the Alaska-Anchorage Hall of Honor in 2006 and the Texas Hall of Honor in 2017.

The 18-member Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame 2026 Men’s Induction Class will be honored on March 18, 2026. Joining Larrabee in the induction class are:
