The Shelby County Traffic Safety Partnership, a joint initiative of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and the Shelbyville Police Department, reports that it successfully completed a recent targeted enforcement campaign.
Patrols focused heavily on identifying impaired and dangerous driving, drug-impaired driving, seat belt non-compliance, and other critical traffic violations.
During the enforcement period, officers cited numerous infractions, including driving with a suspended license, speeding, hands-free device violations, and seat belt non-compliance. The primary goal of these ongoing, targeted operations is to eliminate traffic violations that threaten public safety and prevent avoidable injuries or fatalities on county roadways.
Looking ahead, the partnership will launch a new grant-funded enforcement campaign on August 10, specifically targeting school bus stop-arm violations. Law enforcement reminds all motorists that passing a school bus with its stop-arm deployed is strictly illegal and dangerous. There is never an excuse to bypass a stopped school bus, and keeping Shelby County’s children safe remains our highest priority as the school year begins.
This extra enforcement is made possible through the support and funding provided by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and the Shelby County Drug Free Coalition.
