The Shelby County Traffic Safety Partnership that is comprised of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and the Shelbyville Police Department began patrols for seat belts on February 21.
In a press release, the Shelby County Sheriff's Department reminds the community that seat belt usage is important in saving lives. Statistics show that wearing seat belts improves passenger safety in the event of a crash. The department's goal is to have a community that does not have a death or injury due to non-compliance with seat belt laws.
The sheriff's department further states that it is grateful to the citizens of Shelbyville and Shelby County for their continued safe driving habits. and encourage everyone to drive in a defensive manner.
The department is thankful to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute for funding these extra patrols.
