51st District Republican State Senator Chapin Rose met with county and civic leaders Thursday during a visit to Lawrence County.
The veteran legislator from Mahomet carried a message with him that energy prices are too high across Illinois and he has filed legislation in Springfield to help alleviate the problem.
Rose's bill would restore consumer rate caps, repeal the battery storage provisions in Governor J.B. Pritzker's SB 25, and restore local control over the siting of wind, solar, and other energy storage facilities. Under the Pritzker legislation, local governments lost their authority to approve or deny projects, allowing them to be placed close to homes and farms without a local vote.
The restoration of the rate caps would ensure that Lawrence County families and others around the state are not left vulnerable to unchecked electric bill increases.
Rose told GIANT-FM News that he believes the bill has enough bi-partisan support to pass the state legislature and send it to the governor.
