Rochester schools are among those being affected Friday by a threat that went out to many school districts.

Superintendent Dr. Jana Vance confirmed that about 7:15 a.m. Friday a staff member received an email from an unknown name making threats upon the school. This email was sent to schools all over Indiana, Florida, and South Carolina.

In an abundance of caution, the SRO quickly contacted both city and county law enforcement. The superintendent says they have been in contact with other districts in northern Indiana about the validity of this and while they all believe this is a hoax, the safety of students and staff will always be top priority and this situation has school leaders' full attention.

Rochester schools will have a heightened presence of law enforcement in and around the district throughout the day.
