It's been nearly four years since the Rochester City Pool has been a site for swimming lessons. The summer of 2024 is changing that.
Lori Simpson worked as assistant manager and manager at the pool for 19 years. Two years ago Simpson hung up her keys as manager to spend more time with her family. Now working as a coach and lifeguard at the Bardwell Aquatic Center in Plymouth, Simpson was contacted recently about giving swimming lessons in Rochester again.
Coming back with a splash to the Rochester City Pool, Simpson will be instructing the swim classes alongside long-time swimming instructor Charlee Schwenk.
Dates for their first session will be during the week of June 17 and June 24, running Monday to Thursday. Simpson said an occasional Friday could be used for a weather make-up day.
The second session will be the week of July 1, running Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, due to the holiday.
The sessions during the second week of July 8 will be Monday to Thursday.
Simpson said the swim lessons will be in group sessions for those ages five years and up from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. From 9:50 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. the duo will also be offering lessons for four year olds.
The fee is $40 for the eight lessons, making it only $5 per lesson.
Simpson said they'll be welcoming around 20 students for each session. Those interested in signing up for swim lessons can do so by contacting Simpson at 574-835-1354.
