Indiana State Police have released more information into a shooting death investigation in Clinton.
Just before 9 p.m. on September 16, troopers of the Putnamville Post along with Vermillion County law enforcement agencies responded at State Road 163 and State Road 63 at a local business regarding shots being fired.
Law enforcement arrived immediately after receiving the report that shots had been fired. The found Gavin I. Bodkins, 19, of Clinton, stated that he was the individual who had fired the shots, and who had called 911. Officers then observed Devin Shelby, 41, of Robinson, Illinois, with gunshot wounds and immediately began administering first aid. However, due to the severity of the wounds, Shelby succumbed to his injuries.
Vermillion County Sheriff Mike Holtcamp requested the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post to conduct the investigation. Putnamville detectives have conducted a full investigation, and the information has been provided to Vermillion County Prosecutor Bruce Aukerman for a full review. Once reviewed, the prosecutor will decide if charges will be filed or declined in reference to this incident.
The investigation is being conducted by Indiana State Police detectives, Don Curtis, Jason Schoffstall, with the assistance of Sergeant Mike Featherling, CSI Sergeant Michael Organ and CSI Sergeant Kari Woodard.
The Clinton Police Department, Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department, Vermillion County Coroner's Office are assisting in the investigation.
