By Staff report

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure that will impact U.S. 36 in Parke and Putnam Counties.

Beginning on or after September 14, INDOT contractors will close U.S. 36 between State Road 59 (Bellmore) and U.S. 231.The purpose of the closure is to mill and replace the center line rumble strips on the road.

Local home and business access will be maintained throughout the course of construction, and the road will re-open October 2-20 for the Covered Bridge Festival. This portion of the project is anticipated to be finished by early December, weather-permitting.

The official detour around the closure follows U.S. 231 to S.R. 236 to S.R. 59 back to U.S. 36. INDOT encourages drivers to seek an alternate route and to use caution while traveling in and around work zones.
