Animals were lost but the residents got out safely at a Shelbyville residential fire Thursday morning.
The Shelbyville Fire Department was dispatched at 5:30 a.m. Firefighters had to deal with very cold and icy conditions with real time temperatures into the single digits.
The fire department reports that the three occupants of the home at 1311 West McKay were able to get out safely. However, a dog and two cats were lost in the fire.
The fire was contained to the first floor but smoke damage occurred throughout.

The cause is not considered suspicious but remains under investigation at this time.
Firefighters were on the scene for three hours. McKay Road was closed between Berwyick and Premier while firefighters were on the scene.
According to Shelby County GPS the home is owned by Drake Rentals LLC.
