State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) recently joined Gov. Mike Braun, Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith, Indiana State Department of Agriculture Director Don Lamb and other stakeholders for a letter of intent signing with Taiwan officials at the Statehouse in support of Hoosier farmers and agriculture.

Taiwan signed two letters of intent with both the Indiana Corn Marketing Council and the Indiana Soybean Alliance to purchase nearly $6.4 billion of U.S. corn and soybeans over the next four years.

"This agreement is a win for Hoosier farmers and a reminder of how vital our agricultural exports are to Indiana's economy," said Baird, a member of the House Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee. "Taiwan's commitment to purchase Indiana grown corn and soybeans strengthens a reliable partnership, while ensuring our farmers have stable markets for the crops they work tirelessly to produce. Expanding trade not only supports Hoosier farm families but also reinforces our state's role as a leader in feeding the world."

The letter of intent between the Indiana Corn Marketing Council and the Taiwan Feed Industry Association states that Taiwan will purchase nearly $2.12 billion of U.S. corn and corn products from 2026 to 2029. The letter of intent between the Indiana Soybean Alliance and the Taiwan Vegetable Oil Manufacturers Association states that Taiwan will purchase between $3.44 billion and $4.2 billion of U.S. soybeans from 2026 to 2029.

This is part of the Taiwan Agricultural Trade Goodwill Mission, started in 1998 to build lasting relationships with states and strengthen bilateral agricultural cooperation.
