The Plymouth Police Department will be receiving 22 new tasers after the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved a five-year deal with Axon.

Police Chief John Weir told board members he has $40,000 in next year’s budget to purchase eight tasers.  He said when he talked to Axon seeking this year’s pricing, they told him they would allow him to buy all 22 tasers upfront, making five payments on the total price of $143,992.80.  The chief said the down payment would be $40,000, the funds he has in the 2026 budget. The remaining funds would be handled through four payments of nearly $26,000 each year.

The city would be saving 15 percent of the total purchase, which not only includes 22 tasers and holsters but 440 live cartridges, 220 halt training cartridges, 22 live duty magazines, and 3 training magazines, along with tactical battery packs.

Board of Works member Dave Morrow said it was a good deal for the city, and member Duane Culp said they have good cameras.

The Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously approved the purchase of 22 tasers and the additional equipment using five payments.
