Plymouth Park Board gets update on maintenance projects at city parks

The Plymouth Park Board received updates Tuesday evening on several ongoing maintenance and improvement projects at city parks, including work at Centennial Park, the Freyman Shelter, and Prices Pond.

Park Superintendent Mike Hite told board members that crews are currently addressing some issues with the Pickleball Courts at Centennial Park. Hite noted that some of the courts are experiencing bubbling and cracking, and while the courts are beyond their warranty period, he is actively working with the original contractor to find a solution. The superintendent was quick to reassure the board that the cosmetic issues are not impacting play, do not pose a safety hazard, and are not a liability concern for the city.

In other maintenance news, Hite reported that the long-awaited bathroom renovations at the Freyman Shelter are approximately 85% complete and the facilities are currently usable. A professional flooring contractor is scheduled to come in to clean, sand, and refinish the floors — a process expected to take two days. The restrooms will be closed to the public during that period of floor work.

Hite also confirmed that a paving project at Prices Pond is on the schedule. The park superintendent noted that the entrance to the park is currently in rough condition and said the paving work is expected to make a significant improvement for visitors accessing the popular park.
