A 28-year-old Plymouth man faces a slew of criminal charges after police responded to a late-night disturbance at the Economy Inn early Saturday morning.
According to Plymouth Police, officers were dispatched to 2535 North Michigan Street — the Economy Inn — at approximately 2:37 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, following a 911 call reporting an intoxicated male subject with two children present. The caller reported the suspect was harassing and arguing with people at the location.
Officer Witkowski led the investigation upon arrival. Shortly after, 28-year-old Alex C. Upchurch of Plymouth was taken into custody and transported to Plymouth Hospital for jail clearance.
Upchurch was then transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was booked on six charges: public intoxication (alcohol and/or drugs), disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement, intimidation, neglect of a dependent, and battery on a law enforcement officer.
He was held on a $1,500 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
