Plymouth High School hosts powerful mock crash demonstration ahead of prom

Plymouth High School students experienced a powerful and impactful lesson on the dangers of impaired and distracted driving during a mock crash demonstration held Wednesday morning on the school’s front lawn.

The event was organized by Plymouth High School’s LEAD (Leaders Eliminating Alcohol and Drugs) Club in partnership with local emergency response agencies, including Plymouth Police, Fire, EMS, the County Coroner’s Office, and Lutheran Medical Services. The realistic simulation featured emergency vehicles and first responders, creating a vivid and emotional portrayal of the consequences of unsafe driving decisions.

Designed to raise awareness ahead of prom season, the demonstration aimed to encourage students to make safe, responsible choices. The scene depicted the aftermath of a serious crash involving impaired and distracted driving, followed by a coordinated emergency response that highlighted the real-life roles of first responders.

Students observed as emergency personnel worked through the simulation, providing insight into the physical, emotional, and legal impact such incidents can have on individuals, families, and the community.

School officials and organizers emphasized the importance of proactive education through experiences like this. “This demonstration gives students a real-world perspective that goes far beyond what can be taught in a classroom,” Mr. Skirvin, LEAD Sponsor, shared. “Our goal is to make a lasting impression that encourages safe decision-making.”
