The Plymouth Fire Department marked a milestone Monday evening as a new EMT/Firefighter was officially sworn in and a veteran member was elevated to a leadership role.

Taylor McVoy was sworn into the Plymouth Fire Department by Clerk-Treasurer Lynn Gorski in a ceremony attended by family, friends, and fellow members of the department. In a fitting tribute to her family's firefighting legacy, McVoy was pinned by her father, a retired South Bend Fire Department firefighter.

McVoy joined the full-time PFD crew in April 2026, but her journey in fire service began well before that. She first entered the field in 2023 through the CTE program, where she earned her Firefighter I and II certifications. By 2024, she had completed her EMS training and graduated from John Glenn High School's Class of 2025 with her EMT/Firefighter certifications already in hand — a remarkable achievement for any young first responder.

Prior to joining the Plymouth Fire Department, McVoy worked as a CNA at Miller's Merry Manor. Looking ahead, she is set to begin paramedic school this August as she continues to build her career in emergency services. When she's not on the job, she enjoys spending time outdoors and staying active.

Monday's ceremony also brought a well-deserved promotion within the department's ranks. Chief Holm introduced John Lampkins, who has been elevated to the rank of Captain. The chief credited Lampkins' consistent leadership and dedication as the driving forces behind his advancement, noting that the new role will give him both the authority and leadership responsibilities within his shift, as well as on fire ground operations.

Chief Holm also updated the Board of Public Works and Safety members on another departmental matter, noting that the remaining firefighters are scheduled to be measured this Wednesday for their Class A uniforms, with the order expected to be placed shortly thereafter.
