The Plymouth Downtown Retail Merchants group was approved by the Board of Public Works and Safety last week to close a half-block of Garro Street on Thursdays, December 5th, 12th, and 19th. Garro Street will be closed from Michigan Street to the alley next to the post office.
The merchants are hosting their annual Thursday Night Candlelight Shopping events, the first of which is this Thursday, December 5th, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. It’s Ladies Night Out!
Garro Street will be closed for the next three Thursdays to allow space for the Plymouth Fire Department to step up a marshmallow roasting station for smores. There will also be hot chocolate by the House of Prayer, and Dance Expressions will entertain dancers at 5 p.m.
Sandy Saenz from Simplee Stated Gifts is the de facto leader of the merchant's group. She told the Board of Public Works and Safety, “This is the fourth year the merchants have done the Thursday night shopping, and each year it has grown in attendance.”
Saenz said, “During these special events, shoppers may get a chance to see and take photos with Santa, Buddy the Elf, and even the Grinch.”
December 12th is Men’s Night Out and the 19th is the Cookie Walk.
