Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety opens bids for 2025 street paving projects

In December, Plymouth Mayor Robert Listenberger announced that the City was awarded $647,181.98 in matching funds from the Community Crossings grant. He told GIANT fm WTCA on Tuesday, “These funds will double our current street projects in the City of Plymouth in 2025." 

For many years, the city has budgeted $600,000 annually, but over the years, costs have increased, and the city’s appropriation has remained the same, so less street work has been done. 

Monday evening, four bids were opened for this year’s street repaving projects. Projects include Lincolnway East from Jefferson Street east to the city limits, South Michigan Street from Oakhill Avenue north to the Yellow River Bridge, Lake Street from South Michigan Street to Gideon Street, LaPorte Street from Fifth Street to the dead end on Ben Lane, Seventh Street from Lake Avenue to LaPorte Street, Garro Street from Third Street to Fifth Street, Nursery Street from Rose Street to South Michigan Street, Marlou Place, Roy Street from Gibson Street to Lincolnway East, and Gideon Street from Pennsylvania Street to the dead end.

Bids were received from Niblock Excavating of Bristol for $1,352,906, Milestone Contractors of South Bend for $1,285,379, E & B Paving of Rochester for $1,198,224, and Rieth Riley from South Bend for $1,235,808.

The bids were taken under advisement for the City Engineer to review. He will recommend the lowest and most responsive bid at the next Board of Public Works and Safety meeting on Feb 10. 

The city’s share of the Community Crossing Matching Grant is 50%.
