A public petition has been launched online seeking the adoption of a proposal by the city of Lawrenceville to improve government transparency and public access. Local public advocate Louie Campbell is championing the plan. The proposal outlines practical measures designed to increase city government access such as livestreaming city council meetings, publicly posting contact information for elected city officials, posting city meeting agendas online and at City Hall at least 48 hours in advance and promoting public participation through surveys and forums. Campbell says that implementing the proposal would improve residential access to information and services available for those who cannot attend city council meetings. The petition can be viewed at www.change.org/LvilleGovTransparency.
