Duke Energy is seeking IURC approval to build a new natural gas-fired power plant in Vermillion County, including permission to recover costs through future rates.
In testimony, the utility estimates project costs at approximately $3.33 billion.
Duke Energy customers have the opportunity to comment for the formal record on the utility's proposal to build and operate a new power plant in Vermillion County. The proposed 1,476-megawatt facility would include two natural gas-fired generating units and would replace the coal-fired units at the Cayuga Generating Station.
The project could lead to a 5.4% rate increase for customers between 2026 and 2032.
