An extreme heat warning is now in effect through Thursday, July 2nd for the entire GIANT-FM listening area in southeastern Illinois and southwestern Indiana.
The National Weather Service issued the upgraded status Monday, June 29th. The extreme heat combined with the high humidity across the region will cause dangerously hot conditions with the heat index values ranging from 105 to 110 degrees during the period.
Those who venture outside should take extra precautions. Drink plenty of fluids, especially water. Stay out of the direct sunlight for lengthy periods of time. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening. Do not leave young children or pets inside unattended vehicles. Check up on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly. Take frequent rest breaks in a cool, shaded area.
