102nd District Republican State Representative Adam Niemerg is continuing to call for an immediate tour of both the Lawrence County Correctional facility near Sumner and the Crawford County Correctional facility near Robinson after a reported overdose of an inmate being housed at Robinson recently.
Niemerg has been a critic of the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) and its policies to prevent drugs from entering the prison sites across the state and at a press conference in Springfield, reiterated the need for changes. The Dieterich lawmaker said it is not acceptable for people in the custody of the state of Illinois to continue to die and that for the health and safety of the inmates and prison staff, changes must be implemented.
So far, the IDOC has not released specifics surrounding the death nor the name of the deceased inmate.
