Anglers from across the region will descend upon Marshall County this weekend as Plymouth prepares to host "The Great Midwestivus II," a premier Kayak Adventure Series (KAS) fishing tournament scheduled for April 24-25.

The two-day tournament will offer prime pre-spawn fishing conditions as competitors target both largemouth and smallmouth bass. Anglers will have the opportunity to cast their lines across all public lakes, rivers, and streams within Marshall County. Within a short drive, participants can launch into a diverse lineup of fisheries—from natural lakes like Lake Maxinkuckee to the winding currents of the Yellow and Tippecanoe rivers, as well as smaller, off-the-map backwater cuts and ponds.

The tournament format challenges anglers to catch a five-fish limit over the course of the Friday and Saturday competition. A unique highlight of the weekend is the "Friday Afternoon Sesh," a designated time that encourages participants to explore and fish new waters. With clear natural lakes, shallow weed-filled systems, and current-driven rivers all in play, organizers describe the tournament as a true “choose your own adventure” event where strategic decision-making matters just as much as fishing skill.

The stakes for the weekend are high. Top-performing anglers will be followed by a professional film crew and featured in an upcoming episode of KAS TV.

Beyond the competition on the water, The Great Midwestivus II is expected to be a significant boon for the local economy. Hosted as part of the 2026 Kayak Adventure Series tour, the event actively encourages visiting anglers and their families to explore Marshall County's outdoor recreation. Plymouth delivers a welcoming, small-town Midwest feel, making it easy for visitors to unwind after long days on the water by enjoying local breweries, restaurants, walkable downtown streets, and nearby parks and trails.

The weekend will culminate in a festive Closing Ceremony meetup at The Yellow River Taphouse, complete with food, music, games, kayak demonstrations, and Toyota truck displays. Following the meetup, the final Awards Ceremony will take place inside the historic, newly renovated REES Theatre. There, attendees will get to relive the weekend’s biggest catches and most exciting moments through GoPro-shot highlights shown on the big screen.

Whether competing on the water or joining in the local festivities, the Kayak Adventure Series invites everyone to experience northern Indiana bass fishing at its finest, where classic waters meet modern kayak competition.
