Marshall County to celebrate America's 250th Anniversary with 4th of July Parade in Plymouth

Marshall County's America 250 Committee invites businesses, organizations, and community groups to participate in a patriotic Fourth of July Parade in Plymouth on Saturday, July 4th, as the nation marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Participants will begin lining up at 9:30 a.m. at the north entrance of New Oakhill Cemetery, with the procession stepping off at 10 a.m. The parade will head north up South Michigan Street to LaPorte Street, where it will head east to River Park Square.

Organizers encourage entries that reflect a historical or patriotic theme in honor of the milestone anniversary. Suggested float and entry ideas include fife and drum corps, patriotic floats, historical reenactments, historically dressed figures, Founding Fathers portrayals, and horse-drawn carriages. Participants should note that floats may not exceed 13 feet 11 inches in height to safely pass under the Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge along the route.

Those interested in entering a float or other entry in the parade are asked to complete a short intent form to help the committee plan the event. The form is available on Marshall County’s America 250 Facebook page.

Beyond the parade itself, the 250 Committee encourages local businesses to decorate their windows in celebration of the occasion and asks homeowners throughout Marshall County to fly their flags on the Fourth of July.

"The 250 Committee hopes to get several patriotic-themed floats to help celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence," organizers said.
