The Marshall County Sheriff's Department is alerting community members to a phone scam in which callers are impersonating department personnel and soliciting money on behalf of the criminal justice system.

The Sheriff's Department wants residents to know clearly: the department is not soliciting funds. Anyone who receives a phone call or email requesting payment or donations on behalf of the Marshall County Sheriff's Department or the criminal justice system should not respond.

Officials also emphasized that the department does not conduct transactions through third-party payment platforms such as PayPal, Apple Pay, Western Union, or similar services. All legitimate, official payments — such as bonds — are made directly to the appropriate government agency.

Residents who receive a suspicious call or have questions about the legitimacy of any payment request are encouraged to contact the Marshall County Sheriff's Department or the relevant agency directly to verify before providing any personal or financial information.
