Dozens gathered Friday, Aug. 15, at the Marshall/St. Joesph County line on Michigan Rd near LaVille Schools for a road dedication ceremony that honored of former Congresswoman Jackie Walorski.

Marshall County leaders renamed part of Michigan Rd that runs from the St. Joseph County line to the Fulton County line to be now known as Jackie Walorski Road. According to leaders, this was a significant spot as it's right at the St. Joseph and Marshall county line, reflecting the special bond between the community and Walorski, as well as the importance of preserving her legacy.

Jesse Bohannon, Marshall County commissioner said the dedication of the road serves not only as a way to remember Walorski’s service but also to inspire future generations.
The former Congresswoman served Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District from 2013 until she died in a car accident in 2022. The accident also killed two of her staff members and the driver from the second automobile involved.

Among those in attendance for renaming the road was Walorski’s successor, Congressman Rudy Yakym, and State Rep. Jake Teshka and Jackie’s mother, Martha Walorski.
“It’s so personal,” Walorki's mother said, reflecting on the area, a place where Walorski grew up and spent most of her youth at.
