Marshall County Commissioners approve 3 projects for 2027 Community Crossings Grant application

The Marshall County Commissioners voted unanimously on Tuesday, September 8th, to apply for the 2027 Community Crossings Matching Grant, seeking $1 million in state funding for three road improvement projects across the county.

Stepping in for Highway Superintendent Peters was Clerk Campbell, who informed the commissioners that the deadline to submit projects for next year's Community Crossings Matching Grant program is September 30th. A financial commitment letter is required with the application, and the county's local share would be $250,000 when applying for the full funding of $1 million. Campbell also noted that the county would be responsible for any cost overruns on projects awarded.

Superintendent Peters recommended three projects for submittal, all of which the commissioners approved:

• Donnybrook Subdivision
• 3rd Road, from State Road 331 to Elm Road
• Elm Road, from 3B Road to the town limits

Commissioner Adam Faulstich made a motion to allow the Highway Department to apply for the Community Crossings 2027 Matching Grant in the total amount of $1,250,000. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Jesse Bohannon and passed with a 3-0 vote.

Commissioner Bohannon then made a motion to sign the Letter of Financial Support, seconded by Commissioner Faulstich. That motion also passed 3-0.

The Letter of Financial Commitment was subsequently presented to the Marshall County Council at their meeting on September 14th, where it was also approved.

The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program is a state initiative administered by the Indiana Department of Transportation that provides funding to local governments for road and bridge preservation projects.
