Longtime educator tabbed to lead new Montezuma Elementary

A familiar face within Montezuma Elementary School will be welcoming students when school begins in August. 

Indiana Agriculture & Technology School has named Janine Sutton as the leader of Montezuma Elementary. The school will open in August as an Indiana Agriculture & Technology School. 

Sutton is no stranger to education or Montezuma, having spent two decades at Montezuma Elementary School and has more than 24 years experience. She has served as an educator, mentor, community leader, and has taught kindergarten, first grade, Title I reading and fifth grade. 

Keith Marsh, Executive Director of Indiana Agriculture & Technology School, welcomed the addition of Sutton.

"Janine brings a tremendous amount of educational experience, a strong knowledge base and deep roots within the Montezuma community. Throughout this process, we've consistently heard how excited families and community members are about the possibility of her leading the school. We are confident in her ability to continue learning, growing and providing strong leadership as we build an exceptional educational experience for our students," Marsh said. 

Sutton admits she is ready to lead the Montezuma Elementary IATS family.

"I believe that a successful school is built on strong relationships among students, parents, staff and the community. I hope to do what is best for students, while making them feel valued and challenged. I am honored to be given this opportunity," Sutton said. 

In addition to Sutton, Montezuma Elementary's staff will feature Cierra Earley and Shirley Fellows as office managers/administrative assistants; Transportation Director Karen Barnes and Food Service Manager Kendal Jeffers. 

Montezuma Elementary - IATS, 459 East Strawberry Road, will open in August and is currently enrolling students in grades Pre-K through 6. The school is a tuition free public charter school. 

"From the beginning, our goal has been to honor the history of Montezuma Elementary while creating new opportunities for future generations of students. Janine's leadership, experience and commitment to this community will make her the perfect person to help carry that vision forward," Marsh said.
