While snow totals are up in the air, one thing is for certain -- Putnam County is set to see snow from this weekend's snow storm.

And, local officials want residents to be ready, prepared and stay safe.

Greencastle Mayor Lynda Dunbar let residents know her city is taking the potential snowfall and cold temperatures very seriously, turning to Facebook to relay a message to residents.

"Our snow removal team will report in at noon on Saturday and we will have around the clock efforts until the streets are cleared and passable. With the extremely cold temperatures we will not be spreading salt because it will not work. We are asking for all vehicles to be placed in driveways and off the city streets if possible to aid in snow removal," Dunbar said.

With the extreme temperatures and snow slated to arrive, Greencastle's parks and cemetery will be closed.

"We highly recommend that everyone stay in so our first responders and snow removal staff can do their jobs," Dunbar said.

Cloverdale Town Board President Brandon Tancak echoed those sentiments, stating his town is prepared for whatever comes.

"We have made sure that all of our vehicles are ready to go when needed and have plenty of salt in stock as well. Our crews will be ready to work when that time comes and will do their best to keep primary roads cleared and then secondaries. If for some reason we run low on salt, we have been in contact with IDOT and they have some on hand locally that they would be willing to let us purchase off them," Tancak told The Putnam County Post.

His advice is if residents have to run any errands or go anywhere, do it early Saturday before the snow begins to fall across Putnam County.

"Once it does start to snow, use common sense and don’t get out and about unless it’s an emergency. Staying off the roads will not only ensure the public’s safety but also allow those who are plowing snow a chance to do their job more effectively without having to worry about other vehicle traffic," Tancak said.
