The Lawrenceville Armory will be the subject of a special program of the Lawrence County Historical Society on Monday, June 22nd at 7 p.m.
The facility located at 1522 Porter Avenue in Lawrenceville opened in 1939 and served as a base for the Illinois National Guard for 84 years before being shut down. After its closure by the state in 2023, Illinois donated the site to the city. It has since been used for a variety of community activities and events. Armory manager Bill Richardson will host a tour of the building and provide a brief history of its construction and operations.
The program will take place at the Armory and is free and open to the public.
